The bigger, the taller, the grander, the better! Create a tablescape with different sized boxes under your black fabric. Establish a visual theme of color and décor. Use lanterns or candles or votives or a combination. Use branches and weeds, pumpkins and gourds, gargoyles and grotesques, and don’t forget skulls. If you have one of those rock garden table fountains, work it in, especially if you can find a fountain mister to create a little fog on the table!
Serve your food in an interesting way. Use serving platters that follow your color scheme or use cloth napkins to pull colors together. Do not use cute Jack-O Lantern bowls or skeleton trays which turn this into any other Halloween party. The Gala must rise above these things!
Plates and cocktail napkins should be solid, deep colors so as not to call attention to themselves. Again, forget the cute plates and napkins. Do something different!
Finish your table with spider webs, Spanish moss and maybe even some festive mylar confetti and your ghoul guests are sure to be elated! Be extra careful to keep this foreign matter out of the food!
